Susan Mailman, Chairwoman of the Board 2005-2007

For 85 years, the United Way of Central Massachusetts has played a critical role in the local community by helping those in need.  As a community leader, the United Way convenes local resources - donors, volunteers, partners and agencies to address the most critical human needs and creates a positive, measurable impact in the community.

Volunteer Services Program

By focusing on the root causes and the needs of our children and youth, we are able to create the greatest positive impact on our future.  Our impact areas include: Ensuring Children's Readiness for School - Supporting Positive Youth Development - Helping People Most in Need.

For 40 years, The Volunteer Services Program has been connecting new volunteers with non-profit organizations throughout Central Massachusetts.  Through this program, local agencies, companies and volunteers are matched to complete projects and fulfill community needs.  www.unitedwaycm.org

Handicap Ramp Program

Local union members volunteer here in our community identifying agencies, families and individuals who are in the need of handicap accessibility.  They donated their time and supplies to construct ramps that significantly improve quality of life for people in our community.  Carpenters Local 107 have been instrumental in organizing the engineering side of the handicap ramp process and partnered with the AFL/CIO Labor Director at the United Way to build secure, well-constructed ramps.

Over the years, Coghlin employees have been partners with the United Way.
